Feature Type:
Car Configurator

Released:

January 2021

Designed CUPRA’s digital car configurator for both desktop and mobile, enhancing the experience for users exploring, customizing, and comparing vehicle options.

Challenge

The extensive range of customization became a challenge to design an experience that let users explore and select options efficiently, maintaining a clear and smooth flow through each step of the complex car configuration, while ensuring fast performance and an engaging experience across both desktop and mobile.

Solution

To handle the complexity of the car configurator, we broke the experience into progressive steps, allowing users to explore options without being overwhelmed or waiting for everything to load at once. Each step presented key selections first, with real-time feedback on prices, performance, and visual impact, maintaining a smooth flow through the configuration.

Outcome

The configurator delivered a cohesive and scalable customization experience that balanced usability, performance, and brand expression. It strengthened CUPRA’s digital ecosystem while providing a flexible foundation for future product and market needs.

My Contributions

  • Defined UX/UI flows for a complex, multi-step car configuration experience across desktop and mobile.

  • Built early interactive prototypes to explore complex configuration flows and enable fast design iteration.

  • Created micro-interactions and motion behaviors using ProtoPie to validate interaction details and user feedback.

  • Partnered closely with developers to prototype, review, and validate component behavior before implementation.

  • Designed and documented reusable UI components on Figma to be aligned with a React component library, ensuring consistency and scalability.

Cupraofficial.com delivered a global platform used as a template for multi-regional and multi-language markets. A foundational design system supported fast content creation while preserving consistency and quality across regions.

The creation of the CUPRA website was the starting point for an extraordinary workload. Working against the clock, a simple yet robust design system with personality was built to lay the foundations for the pages which, combining elements of a magazine and a cutting-edge website, would be translated into more than 100 countries.

Challenge

I worked closely with content managers, designers, and external developers to deliver reports and documentation with pixel-perfect accuracy across every page, component, and viewport resolution throughout the development cycle. My work covered functional and visual testing, focusing on design system components, multi-media rich content pages, and performance testing.

Solution

Beyond testing, I helped improve team processes by providing accurate and detailed bug reports, actively participating in daily stand-up meetings, and ensuring quality control from the early stages of design and development. This approach led to a more polished, stable, and consistent web experience, which directly strengthened CUPRA’s brand positioning and business goals.

Outcome

My Contributions

  • Worked closely with designers, content managers, and external developers to validate features early, identify risks, and improve release confidence.

  • Performed functional, regression, and cross-device testing, with a focus on interactive components and responsive behavior.

  • Provided clear defect reporting and documentation to guide development fixes.

  • Participated in daily stand-ups and review processes to support quality throughout the design and development lifecycle.
